Bertha Alvin Elementary School, Hall-Monroe Elementary School and T. C. Calhoun Consolidated High School were all completed in 1957, using funds from the Minimum Foundation Program of Education (MFPE). (The purpose of this taxpayer-funded program was to equalize state spending on white and African-American schools.) These new schools replaced Irwinton Junior High and the Toomsboro Rosenwald School (built in 1921).

Calhoun Consolidated High School integrated into Wilkinson County High School in 1970.

The Calhoun Consolidated High School building now houses Wilkinson County Primary School.
