Kenosha High School was identified as “the first free public school west of the Alleghanies.” It had its origins in the very beginnings of the history of Kenosha, Wisconsin. It was also referred to as Central High School. KHS moved into its “new” building at Sheridan Road and 57th Street in 1927. The building later became Mary D. | McKinley High School (Marshfield) (1901-1936) Marshfield opened a new high school on Oak St, in January, 1900 with an enrollment of 120 students. A year later, the school was renamed McKinley High School in honor of the recently assassinated president. It remained in operation until 1936, when it was destroyed by fire.
