Versailles, Kentucky is located in Woodford County, the heart of the Bluegrass.

For many years, Versailles High School was one of three high schools in the county, the others being Simmons High School and Midway High School. In the 1950's, Simmons was closed, sending its students to Versailles and Midway. In 1964, Woodford County High School was opened, consolidating all of the county's students into one high school.

The building at the corner of Maple Street and Lexington Pike, which most people remember as Versailles High School, was built in 1928. After the high school closed, the building was used for Woodford County Junior High (which was renamed Woodford County Middle School around 1979). The building is currently the focal point of the new Equestrian Park development project.

A. B. "Happy" Chandler was the football coach for the 1922 & 1923 seasons. (Later he regularly brought semi-pro baseball teams to Versailles for games.) Versailles High School won the Kentucky State Football Championship in 1941 and 1962.

This is an aerial photo of the former Versailles High School Building as it appeared in the summer of 2008. Prior to the brick building being built, school was held in the white house seen on the right side of this photo. When the new school was opened, the senior class chose to finish their studies in the white house. Thereafter, the house was used as the Principal's residence until at least the mid 1940's.
