Kennedy Memorial High School was known as Sacred Heart High School prior to being renamed in 1966. It was named to honor the memory of the slain President. Three years later, Kennedy High School was merged with Bishop Chartrand High School. The student bodies voted to select a name for the new school. They chose Roncalli High School, Roncalli being the family name of Pope John XXIII.
